How can you tell the Quality of a Grade-A Premium Vanilla?Vanilla is a creeping plant, organically grown and reaches maturity after 9 months.
It is grown extensively in Madagascar and other parts of the world including; Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Ghana and Mexico.
However, when it comes to pricing Vanilla, both the farmer and the buyer/supplier should have some knowledge of its quality.
How can you tell a high-priced quality Grade-A Premium Vanilla from one that is of lower quality?
This will ultimately result in how much you earn or spend in the business.
Vanilla can be classified according to its varieties and also the types of its beans.
Varieties of Vanilla
There are two main varieties of Vanilla;
1). Vanilla Planifolia = from Mexico same as the Madagascar one, about 14-26 cm long, slender with rich aroma fragrance.
2). Vanilla Tahitensis = From Tahiti, smooth, fruity, flowery flavour.
Quality of Vanilla Beans
There are also, two types of Quality of beans;
1). Gourmet Quality = dark deep black (sometimes dark reddish), oily with moist, more than 15 cm long, bend easily without breaking, great aroma fragrance. Sometimes it’s considered as Premium Quality.
2). Extraction Quality = for Vanilla Extracts, shorter in length, stiff and split beans.
